  • Abandoned Building

282 Centre St, Dorchester, Ma, 02122

What is the nature of the problem: [constituent sent this request from a contact form: "I am writing to raise concerns about a long-neglected property in our neighborhood that continues to deteriorate and affect our quality of life. The property has been abandoned for years. Overgrown weeds, trash accumulation, and general disrepair make it a persistent eyesore. In the winter, the sidewalk goes unshoveled, posing a serious safety hazard. According to city records, the property has unpaid violations going back to March 2018. The owner is a building developer who holds multiple properties across Boston. Unfortunately, this is not the only one he has allowed to fall into neglect. His pattern of neglect was highlighted in a Boston Globe article, which includes a photo of this specific property. Here’s the link: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/10/16/metro/essaibi-george-husbands-real-estate-holdings-present-quandary/ At a time when Boston is facing a serious housing crisis, it is especially frustrating to see developers hoarding properties and leaving them in disrepair. These properties could be part of the solution to the housing shortage, but instead, they remain unlivable, unsafe, and a burden on the community. I urge your office to investigate this matter and take action to hold this developer accountable. Our neighborhood deserves better, and we need policies that discourage this kind of irresponsible property ownership. Thank you for your attention and for your service to our community."]
