  • Pest Infestation - Residential

41 Mozart St, Jamaica Plain, Ma, 02130

The rain may have stopped in Boston but it’s still raining rats over on the exposed garbage at 41-43 Mozart street! But for real - this house is infested with rats, they go in and out of the basements bc they aren’t sealed and they leave the doors open, on top of the tenants throwing their trash off balconies into the bins. It’s a health hazard.

  • Pest Infestation - Residential

217 South St, Jamaica Plain, Ma, 02130

I'm a homeowner on South St in JP in an apartment in a large contiguous brick building. The apartments are divided into several three-decker condos. The back area of the building is a shared parking area, and also where our garbage is collected. We share 8 or so garbage cans back there, and I believe they are the cause of our growing rat problem. I see rats everyday back there, especially at night, and it seems to be getting worse. 1. Several of the garbage cans are missing lids and/or have holes in them making it easy for rats to access. 2. Each time the trash is collected, the garbage cans are left tossed around and knocked over, again making it easy for the rats to access. Even though the trash cans are empty, there is still usually some trash in them at the bottom that seem to attract the rats. 3. Some of the residents spend time cleaning up the trash cans each week, but overall there is no building wide organization to work with to try and address the problem further. I have heard of programs in other parts of the city to distribute rat-proof garbage cans, so I'm reaching out to see if we could also take part in that program. I'd also be interested in any rat mitigation that the city can provide, such as setting traps, although I really think the problem will return unless we fix the garbage can problem. Thanks for your time!
