- Description
- I am writing to report a systemic, hazardous speeding issue on Bay State Road, specifically on the critical stretch bounded by Charlesgate West, Beacon Street, and Raleigh Street. Vehicles routinely treat this dense residential and institutional corridor as a high-speed cut-through.The current roadway conditions present several severe safety hazards:Storrow Drive Off-Ramp Acceleration: Vehicles exiting Storrow Drive frequently run the traffic light and immediately accelerate down Bay State Road to bypass traffic.High Pedestrian Vulnerability: This area experiences massive foot traffic from Boston University students, local residents, and visitors walking to the Esplanade or Fenway Park for Red Sox games.Removed Infrastructure: The removal of the crosswalk connecting Myles Standish Hall to Bay State Road a few years ago has severely exacerbated pedestrian risk, forcing people to cross without protection.Frequent Accidents: Speeding and erratic driving coming off the highway have resulted in multiple vehicle accidents on this block. Please route this issue directly to the Traffic Management & Engineering Division to evaluate this stretch for immediate traffic-calming interventions, such as speed humps, a raised crosswalk, or a dynamic speed feedback sign.
