General Traffic Engineering Request
constituent reports auto traffic routinely blocking the bike lane on Dartmouth St. between Stuart St. and St. James Street in front of the Fairmont Copley Plaza. Requests re-assesment of traffic flow and enforcement of bike-lane blockages. |
CLOSED #101005863210Case Resolved. We expect the incidence of parking in the bike lane to decline over time as more of the flex posts and concrete curbing pieces are installed and the bike lanes are more defined and continuous. People have been used to parking on the curb and it'll take some time for them to figure out the new arrangement. To help expedite that process, we will seek additional parking enforcement in the immediate few months following construction. We need to work in partnership with our operations team to ensure they have the 7 feet of clearance for their maintenance vehicles (particularly street sweepers). As the project concludes, we work with the operations team to determine what is possible to ensure that the lanes remain closed to cars while still allowing them to be cleaned and cleared of snow.

General Traffic Engineering Request
Constituent states there is constant speeding on the street and is requesting speed humps on the street . Constituent states the cars speed down from geneva ave |
CLOSED #101005831057Case Resolved. Thank you for reaching out to us with your issue. We share your concerns about making the City streets safer and we recently revised our speed hump program so that neighborhoods can receive them more quickly. We aim to slow traffic to make every street in the City safer and more comfortable for walking, biking, and rolling. A map is available on boston.gov that shows which streets in the City will receive speed humps during the first three-year phase of construction. We will continue to update the map as new phases of construction are determined. We plan to design and build speed humps in about ten areas each year for the next three years. This is approximately 500 speed humps per year. Everton Street is eligible for speed humps but they are not imminently planned. Streets have been prioritized based on a series of criteria that promotes the safety of all street users. We evaluated each area for its safety history, demographics (higher numbers of children, older adults, and people with a disability), if there are parks, schools, community centers nearby, plans for repaving and ramp construction, and needs otherwise identified by the residents of the neighborhood. We will work to continue to scale up our capacity as quickly as possible.

Constituent wanted to flag that the mentioned intersection is not necessarily safe for pedestrians. Constituent stated that the cars are not waiting by the white line to allow pedestrians to cross and even when persons are crossing the cars are inching towards them because they don't want to wait. Constituent stated that the pedestrian signal counts down and as soon as it hits zero the light goes green for the cars and they don't even want to wait if someone is almost done crossing the street. Constituent is suggesting that there is a few seconds between the pedestrian signal ending and the light going green. |
