CLOSED #101006049654Case Noted. Hello, Your street is eligible for speed humps under the Safety Surge program, but they are not imminently planned. Streets have been prioritized based on a series of criteria that promotes the safety of all street users. We evaluated each area for its safety history, demographics (higher numbers of children, older adults, and people with a disability), if there are parks, schools, community centers nearby, plans for repaving and ramp construction, and needs otherwise identified by the residents of the neighborhood. We will work to continue to scale up our capacity as quickly as possible. You can learn more at: https://www.boston.gov/departments/transportation/making-neighborhood-streets-safer Thank you for contacting BTD and 311.

General Traffic Engineering Request
Const. states they witnessed a car blow through the pedestrian walk signal and nearly hit someone. Requesting increased traffic calming measures, potentially a flashing light for pedestrians to cross safely. |
CLOSED #101006047639Case Noted. This signal is designed in conformance with BTD Guidelines which specify a system of walk lights in conformance with federal safety standards which are widely used throughout the country. Under this system, it is possible to provide longer "Walk" times and shorter delays to vehicles and pedestrians. During the green light for vehicles, "Walk" signals are on for pedestrians crossing parallel to the flow of traffic. Under this system, turning traffic must yield to pedestrians. Since receiving your request, we have verified that this intersection does conform to these guidelines as well as verified that signs are in place directing turning traffic to yield to pedestrians and additional signs are provided to warn pedestrians to watch for turning vehicles. If this issue continues to occur, contact your local law enforcement as they can monitor drivers as well as monitor pedestrian safety.
