I am writing to formally request maintenance for the Shattuck Softball Field in Jamaica Plain. I play on JP community softball league that plays at both the Shattuck Field & Playstead Field from April - August. The field has recently been in poor conditions the past few games we've played and poses safety risks to community members. Below you will see photos from yesterday, May 26th, which as you can see have several hazardous issues that require the City's attention. Key Issues: Muddy infield: It seemed that Parks & Rec didn't appropriately attempt to dry the dugout before applying whatever it was they added on top. It was incredibly muddy, slippery and dangerous to run in. We had a player tweak their knee from these conditions. Uneven ground: Deep potholes and ruts across the playing surface, but mostly around home plate. Overgrown grass: Tall grass in outfield, and sidelines where players are when not fielding. We are all tick vigilant, but having overgrown grass is not helpful. These conditions make it unsafe for local youth sports and community recreation. Other youth leagues and families utilize this space weekly, and we want to prevent injuries. I have attached photos highlighting the specific areas that need leveling, drainage repair, and cleanup. Thank you for your prompt attention to restoring this community asset. We appreciate the hard work required to maintain the City's fields, and hope this field could receive a little more attention, especially with future games next week at this field. I look forward to your update on when crews will address these issues.

The Boston Common Little League desperately needs to mowed. Same is true of the Softball field. It’s particularly damaging to the youth girls field hockey program we run. Ideally these fields would be mowed once a week but I understand the city is spread thin please help us mow whenever might be possible as the fields are becoming a forest a negatively impacting many of our youth programs there. We’re a part of the local nonprofit Hill House Boston.

People have taken to golfing in the place dead in Franklin park. This endangers anyone who wants to use these Sports fields for any other activity. A large chunk of Franklin Park is already dedicated to golfing.

I am submitting this request on behalf of HUB Sports Boston. We have the permit for Moakley softball field 3 (see attached photo for specific field of use) from May-August of this year. The attached photos were recently taken of Softball Field 3, and as you can see there is good amount of grass growing within the infield, some dry dirt could be used, and the lining/dragging of the field could go a long ways in improving the quality of this field. We hope you are able to send a maintenance team to the field to address these issues. Thanks!

Poor ball field conditions. Draper playground has two fields. One is well maintained. The other is in bad shape. Broken fences, holes in the fence behind home plate, no mound, no pitchers block. The base lines have deep ruts. Parkway Little League uses this field for practice.

Town field is in horrible shape for the softball girls. Weeds are growing in the diamond and the weeds in the field are ankle high. Standards should be the same across the board for baseball AND softball.
