Unit Pricing Wrong/Missing
109 153 Lincoln St, Boston, Ma, 02111Missing Price: [No] Wrong Price: [No] What is the nature of the problem: [On Friday, August 30, 2019 at approximately 4:15 PM, I attempted to purchase a bottle of Wan Ja Shan Vegetarian Mushroom Oyster Sauce (see attached pictures of a previously purchased bottle as this was an attempted purchase to replace this nearly empty bottle) from C Mart Supermarket located at 109 Lincoln St Boston MA 02111 located at the edge of the Leather District. When the scanner at the checkout register rang it up as $6.49, I politely informed the cashier that it was supposed to be $4.99 and not $6.49. The cashier asked me if it was on sale and I politely told her that it's normally $4.99. The cashier again asked me if it was on sale and looked at the sales flyer and told me that she didn't see it listed in there for $4.99 I again politely told her that it normally sells for $4.99 and that was the price listed on the shelf. Seeing that the cashier was "confused" (At this point, I would like to point out that I spoke the same dialect of Chinese as the cashier, which is Cantonese so there was no sort of "confusion" whatsoever regarding my line of inquiry), I lead her and a co-worker of hers to the aisle where it was located and pointed out the $4.99 price label on the shelf. She then told a grocery stocker nearby about my inquiry regarding the price discrepancy at the register. Instead of making an effort to look into the pricing discrepancy such as looking for the supervisor/manager or looking at some sort of pricing list, all he (the grocery stocker) said was "Well, if it rang up as $6.49 at the register, then it must be $6.49 then." and basically shrugged his shoulders. Upon hearing this and with a look of disgust, I refused purchase and walked out of the store. After this incident, I have very serious concerns regarding the pricing accuracies of the checkout scanners at C Mart Supermarket, especially after their lackadaisical response of "Well, if that's what it rings up as at the register, then that must be the price, i.e. the checkout scanner is never wrong, ." If one either is making a lot of purchases or does not pay attention to the price labels on the shelf, I can only imagine how many customers they maybe potential overcharging with their total disregard for pricing accuracies. They couldn't even tell me, let alone verify, whether the bottle of oyster sauce I wanted to purchase had risen in price from $4.99 to $6.49. Even if it had risen in price, "forgetting" to update the price labels on the shelves is not an excuse. In addition, if the checkout scanners are registering inaccurate prices, the electronic scales at the meat and seafood section and those at the checkout lanes as well may be registering inaccurate weights and prices as well, potentially overcharging customers. Please open up an investigation into the accuracy of the checkout scanners and the electronic scales at C Mart Supermarket.]
